Thank you... Sarah Palin???

This past Friday, former vice presidential candidate and current Governor of Alaska announced that she would both not be seeking another term in office in 2010 and that she would be stepping down from the governor's office altogether as of the end of this month. When I first heard this news which still seems shocking and bizarre I was quite confused.

Her press conference was very scattered. She started by going through all the accomplishments that her office has accomplished since shes been the governor. Some of these accomplishments include: predator control, drilling for oil in Alaska, and a bi-partisan energy program. She then went into her comfortable and usual fodder of blaming the media for criticizing her in the '08 election season and beyond. Some of the specific accusations she addressed were "holding a fish in a photograph, wearing a jacket with a logo on it, and answering reporters’ questions."(http://community.adn.com/adn/node/142176) She then made the announcement that she would not seek a 2Nd term as Governor and that she would be resigning at the end of this month. She was determined not to be a "lame duck".

"I do not want to disappoint anyone with my decision; all I can ask is that you TRUST me with this decision – but it’s no more “politics as usual”.

So what's the reaction to this impending resignation. Both sides of the aisle are flabbergasted. I'm not really sure what to think of it, if she plans on running for the presidency in 2012, she's going to have to answer why she as Governor didn't serve for her full term. Maybe she's considering the Alaskan senate seat, to get some experience in DC. Whatever her plans are, she's stepping out of the public eye for awhile. And to that I say "thank you, thank you, thank you!!"

The loss of an icon... and 20,000 not-so-average joes

This past week we've lost the king of pop, Michael Jackson.  We've also lost Ed Mcmahon, Farrah Fawcett, and Billy Mays.  All of these celebrities made an impact, small or large on our culture in some way.  Whether is was the sexy, wavy blonde hair that boosted farrah into sex symbol stardom or a larger than life Billy Mays sporting a denim button up shirt yelling at me to buy some sort of cleaning product, they all will be remembered as making a difference.
And while these deaths are indeed sad and they will all be missed in their own ways, what about the millions of people living in poverty right now, who will die tomorrow, living in pain today?  Why are their deaths not being reported?
according to stopthehunger, well over 20,000 people have died already today from hunger and over 5,000,000 have died from hunger this year already!! Those deaths warrent reporting just as much as Jack-o's death does.  While the world is mourning these deaths (500 million people logged on to Jackson' memorial ticket vendor in the 1st hour perez hilton) a mother mourns the loss of her skin and bones malnurished son.
So what can we do about it? We can get informed about the hunger rates, support organizations who aid needy people.  So here are some websites:

my 1st post

Wow, I'm pretty excited about this! I'm hoping by blogging about my life and opinions (more specific my political opinions), it will make me less stressed out and able to formulate a well-thought out idea of what I believe. My background is conservative republican but I recently "converted" so-to-speak, to an independant. I truly hope that if anyone reads this, it will open discussions and I really really want to find people of similar ethics and beliefs because I just need to be on common ground with politics.
